Internet and phone options for Virginia businesses
Virginia has some of the fullest coverage in our area: cable is reported for business service at about 99% of its 5,054 locations, copper at about 94% and licensed fixed wireless at about 95%. Fibre is reported at about 25%. These Virginia figures are from the FCC’s National Broadband Map, data as of December 31, 2025.
By provider, the FCC’s map shows Mediacom at 100%, Lumen (CenturyLink) at 94% and T-Mobile at 83% of Virginia locations for business service, with Verizon at 25% and Consolidated Telephone Company at 20%. For a Virginia business that makes a backup connection easy to arrange, because a wireless link from a different provider is on offer at nearly every address.
We are vendor-neutral, so for a Virginia address we compare what each of those carriers actually offers there against how the office uses its phones and internet, and say which combination makes sense.
The businesses Virginia runs on
The Census Bureau’s 2022 Economic Census counts the businesses inside Virginia’s city limits; these are the largest Virginia groups among the industries we serve:
- Healthcare. 71 health care and social assistance establishments in Virginia employ 1,548 people and need call routing between scheduling and billing, and backups that are tested.
- Retail. 70 retail establishments in Virginia employ 1,202 people and need card payments that work every time and guest wi-fi kept apart from the till.
- Financial services. 27 finance and insurance establishments in Virginia employ 539 people and need email protection and written security policies an examiner can read.
- Professional services. 28 professional, scientific and technical establishments in Virginia employ 239 people and need secure remote access and someone to call when a computer is down.
- Logistics. 7 transportation and warehousing establishments in Virginia employ 142 people and need sites that stay connected to each other.
Finance and insurance employs 539 people in Virginia, several times the figure for any other Range city on this site.
For Virginia, construction and manufacturing are counted by county rather than by town: County Business Patterns for 2022 counts 559 construction establishments, 188 manufacturers employing 5,223 people and 13 mining establishments employing 3,085 across St. Louis County. Job sites and shop floors around Virginia need phones and connections in places an office network was never designed for.
Schools, local government and nonprofits are on the list of industries we serve as well; the Census business surveys leave most of them out, so there is no Virginia figure to give for them.
If your Virginia business holds customer data
Minnesota law (Minn. Stat. 325E.61) requires a business that holds personal information to tell the people affected without unreasonable delay when that data is taken in a breach, and to notify the consumer reporting agencies within 48 hours when more than 500 people must be told. For a Virginia business the practical step is knowing where customer data sits and who can reach it before anything goes wrong, which is what a security review covers.
