Internet and phone options for Chisholm businesses
Four providers each report business service at more than 85% of Chisholm’s 2,769 locations, which is more overlap than most towns its size have. Cable is reported at about 100% and copper at about 96%, while fibre is reported at only about 6%. These Chisholm figures are from the FCC’s National Broadband Map, data as of December 31, 2025.
By provider, the FCC’s map shows Mediacom at 100%, Lumen (CenturyLink) at 96%, T-Mobile at 96% and Sisu Investments at 87% of Chisholm locations for business service, with AT&T at 20%, Verizon at 18% and Consolidated Telephone Company at 5.3%. A Chisholm business has plenty of choice between carriers, then, but little of it is fibre, so the comparison is mostly about price, upload speed and which two lines fail independently.
We are vendor-neutral, so for a Chisholm address we compare what each of those carriers actually offers there against how the office uses its phones and internet, and say which combination makes sense.
The businesses Chisholm runs on
The Census Bureau’s 2022 Economic Census counts the businesses inside Chisholm’s city limits; these are the largest Chisholm groups among the industries we serve:
- Healthcare. 22 health care and social assistance establishments in Chisholm employ 305 people and need backed-up records and staff who can spot a phishing email.
- Retail. 10 retail establishments in Chisholm employ 100 people and need reliable card terminals and a second internet line behind them.
- Financial services. 5 finance and insurance establishments in Chisholm employ 30 people and need documented security controls and reviews.
- Professional services. 3 professional, scientific and technical establishments in Chisholm (the Census withholds the employee count) need access control over client data and backups that restore.
Health care is the largest group the Census publishes for Chisholm.
For Chisholm, construction and manufacturing are counted by county rather than by town: County Business Patterns for 2022 counts 559 construction establishments, 188 manufacturers employing 5,223 people and 13 mining establishments employing 3,085 across St. Louis County. Job sites and shop floors around Chisholm need phones and connections in places an office network was never designed for.
Schools, local government and nonprofits are on the list of industries we serve as well; the Census business surveys leave most of them out, so there is no Chisholm figure to give for them.
If your Chisholm business holds customer data
Minnesota law (Minn. Stat. 325E.61) requires a business that holds personal information to tell the people affected without unreasonable delay when that data is taken in a breach, and to notify the consumer reporting agencies within 48 hours when more than 500 people must be told. For a Chisholm business the practical step is knowing where customer data sits and who can reach it before anything goes wrong, which is what a security review covers.
